A Note from the President...
I hope
everyone is getting all of their quilting done in the cold months of the
year. I am in the process of
reorganizing my house. In preparation
for the Year of the Rabbit which begins on Feb. 3, 2011. Although most of us celebrate the New Year on
January 1st, I need to give myself that extra month to get it
together after the holidays. So my
clean-sweep, organization and re-assessing my goals take on some Chinese
traditions.
I hope you are
seeking out your Super Powers to share with us in February. There are so many talented people in our
group it would be sad to waste them. I
hope you will come up to me at the meeting or send me an e-mail and let me know
what you like to do and I will gladly hook you up. We are such a big group and if you are new it
is really hard to find your niche unless you seek it out. There are so many great people to meet at
Miami Valley Quilters’ Guild, new and old members alike.
Other than the
‘tea and talk’ there are also small groups, committees, projects and such that
we offer. So, it’s time to get hopping
during this year of the rabbit and jump right in.

Are You Ready for Red, White & Blue Retreat?
The time is
fast approaching for our red, white and blue themed “Stars and Stripes”
retreat. Since we were unable to have our January meeting, please mail your
remaining balance to Jean Brittingham,
Unfortunately
if you’re unable to send a check we will only be able to accept cash at and
after the February meeting. Any questions call me, Patti Jones at
776-3010
I’d like
to encourage you to bring your patriotic themed or red, white and blue quilts
for show-n-tell. We also would like you to enter those quilts in
a fun competition to be judged by guild members on which quilt embodies
our theme for the retreat! This includes a prize for the winner to be
named at show-n-tell.
Service
projects are always encouraged in our guild and at our retreat this year we are
encouraging you to make a pillowcase to donate to the Million Pillowcase
Challenge sponsored by All People Quilt. We will have instructions at the retreat.
Each pillowcase requires 3/4 yd fabric for the main piece, 1/3 yd for the
border and 1/8 yd (WOF) for an accent border.
In
closing, expect to have a great time with great company! If you have
items or services you would like to donate for door prizes or to go in our
“goodie bags” please call or email Dawnetta Fields 426-1229,
dawnettarfields@yahoo.com or me Patti Jones 776-3010, scrapspj@yahoo.com.
