Pictorial Quilts Enhanced with Fabric Paint

Great August to you fellow quilters! We are hosting Annette Kennedy this month and she will be sharing with us some “Possibilities with Paint”.

Topics will include how Annette came to make quilts from photos and started painting on them, samples of prepared for dying fabric vs. commercial fabric and a Q & A time. She may have some items for sale during the break period.

There will be a $5.00 guest fee.

Two spots remain in each of the two classes Annette will be teaching class…don’t wait until the last minute if you want to get in. The cost is $65 per class or $117 for both (includes kit fee). Supply lists and samples are on her website: www.annettekennedy.com.

Classes will be Wednesday and Thursday, August 12 and 13, at the Appalachian Quilt Shop.  For full details, see the guild website.

Our July fund-raiser was a big success! THANK YOU TO EVERYONE! We received so many donations from such a charitable group of people. If I thanked you all individually I would forget someone.

This was a big new thing for me and the ladies who helped out. I realize there were some things that we did right and some things that can be done better next time. (If the next vp wants to do this again...hint , hint, are you out there?)

I am so thankful for the outcome of $581.00 that we raised! This is really going to help with programs! Once again, thank you.

A Note from the President

Well, wasn’t that a fun meeting? Lots to do, lots to learn and room to chat. I loved it. Thanks to Shari Brindley and her working group. They did a great job.

I hope everyone is as excited as I am about the possibility of making some quilts for Extreme Makeover. By the time you read this we will have finished them and the house will have been revealed. We will try to have pictures and will definitely let everyone know about this giving project.

(NOTE: The Extreme Makeover people were not in as big a hurry as they first indicated.  Kim has not heard their final decisions, so keep the sewing machines oiled for if or when they decide on quilts for the makeover.)

I have finally finished doing my UFO sheet and have sent it to Ed.

Chairman for Hospitality…boy this was a hard position to fill; however, Joyce Marrs has been kind enough to accept the position. Thanks Joyce.

The next Executive Board meeting will be August 5 at the Beavercreek Library at 6 p.m. It’s a Budget Meeting.

See everyone soon.

Calling All Secret Stitchers

Sign-ups for a new season of Secret Stitchers will begin in August and go through October with the first gift exchange in November. This is a fun way to get to know another guild member.

Each month you will bring a small gift such as a fat-quarter, sewing notion, a treat, or other inexpensive item for your assigned Stitcher, and you will receive a gift from your Secret Stitcher. In May the identities of the Stitchers are revealed.

Participants from last year seemed to enjoy the experience. New secret stitchers are most welcome.

Look for the Secret Stitcher basket with the sign-up cards on the shelf by the kitchen.

If you have any questions, please contact Barbara Carruth at jccbsc@gmail.com or at 254-8136.

MVQG’s Quilt Show

May 7 and 8, 2010, Greene Co. Fairgrounds, Xenia

We are in need of a FACEBOOK person for the Guild/Quilt Show. This is a new position that we want to try. Facebook is so new and utilized by so many people. Shari and Ed have it started, however, they would like someone to take it over.

We can make FACEBOOK as big or small a job as you like. As an example, if four people volunteered for the position, each person could take a week out of the month. I’m open to any and all suggestions. It’s just something we could use for a lot of publicity. It’s also a way to reach to so many more people.

Please think about it and let me know. Thanks.

Quilt Show Reminders

Yes, May 2010 is not far away and there is lots to do.
First comes getting all of those quilting projects finished to display. Then starting a list of all the people and places you can sell raffle tickets. Our raffle quilt, “Shadow of the Bear”, is queen size. It is a combination of a bear paw block and log cabin and is done in fall colors.

Next comes boutique items. We know all of you make great gifts, why not make extra to sell in the boutique. The other option is to donate items for sale. One way you get to make a little extra cash and the other adds to the guild funds. These are a few things to get started. Each month we will remind and encourage all of you to be ready for the Big Show in May 2010.

Fons & Porter Renewal

Help your guild by renewing your Fons & Porter “Love of Quilting” subscription through the guild.

Cut your address label off your magazine and give it and $20 to Karen Engel. The guild gets $5 for every subscription, so this gets your subscription while assisting the guild, too.

Deposit magazine labels and checks made out to MVQG in a plastic shoebox on the sign-in table labeled “Love of Quilting” subscriptions. There will also be forms available to get the magazine for the first time in the plastic shoebox.

This will be an ongoing renewal, so any time the magazine informs you that your subscription is about to expire, just remember to renew through the guild…it is a way for you to help keep the guild solvent.
