Debbie Reed Maddy: No “Y”
Seams !!!
Wow and a big thank you to the folks who
came to the July meeting and helped with Community Quilts.
Dawnetta classified it as a tremendous
success; and it’s all because of you!!! I think it would be really cool if
everyone committed to making at least one community quilt each year; that would
be almost 200 quilts for our community!!!
August promises to be fun too with a Texas
twister of quilter coming to visit us. Debbie Reed Maddy will be lecturing on
her no “Y” seams technique and be showing a ton of quilts in her trunk show.
She will be teaching “Labyrinth” on Tuesday, August 9, and “Cosmic Jewels” on
Wednesday, August 10.
Both classes will be held from 9:30-4:30 at
Calvary Chapel in
Beavercreek. We still have some openings. If you are interested, go to
http://www.calicocarriage.com/ and check out what we are going to be doing,
then e-mail me to sign up. Cost is $30 each class or 2 for $60.
Also plan on coming to the September
meeting where Jean Brittingham will be heading up a wonderful Demonstration
Day. She has some fantastic plans and was seeking some wonderful folks to help
out.
Happy Quilting!

A Note from the President...
A big thank you to all who helped with
community quilts this year. It is an on
going project so be sure to get with Dawnetta and lend a hand. Perhaps set a goal for completing any number
of community projects and then try your best to attain that goal. Even one is better than none at all,
especially if you have not had the chance to participate.
There will be a board meeting in
August. Date, Time and Place is
pending. Thanks again for everything you
all are doing for our community of quilters.
Looking
forward to seeing you soon!

Calling All Secret Stitchers
Sign-ups for a new season of Secret
Stitchers will begin in August and go through October with the first gift
exchange in November.
This is a fun way to get to know another
guild member. Each month you will bring
a small gift such as a fat-quarter, sewing notion, a treat, or other
inexpensive item for your assigned Stitcher, and you will receive a gift from
your Secret Stitcher. In May the
identities of the Stitchers are revealed.
Participants from last year seemed to
enjoy the experience. New secret
stitchers are most welcome.
Look for the
Secret Stitcher basket with the sign-up cards on the shelf by the kitchen.
If you have any questions, contact Barbara
Carruth at jccbsc@gmail.com or at 254-8136.

her know that you will be attending.
MVQG Sew-In at Senior Center

($1.00 for members of the Fairborn Senior center).
Come and get to know other members of the
guild. Come for a few hours or stay all day. (When you arrive, go to the
back-door of the center and the room is to the left.)
Bring a project and sew, sew and sew. You
can sew something for yourself or work on projects for Community Quilts. Bring
your sewing machine, tools and supplies, or do some hand work. Irons will be
available. No home interruptions!!!

Raffle Quilts Ready for 2012 Show
Well, we have finished the large raffle
quilt and the small one is almost complete.
I want to thank all those who have worked on both of them. We have so much talent and it really shows in
our 2 quilts.
We have started to sell raffle
tickets. We will have another contest
for “Most Sold” and “Over 100 Club.”
When you sell your tickets, please put your name on the back of the
stub. This is how we will give credit to
you for selling your tickets.
Kathy Evens is in charge of the raffle
tickets.
At the August
meeting we will have envelopes with 2 sheets of tickets. Tickets are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. Please try to sell or buy at least 2
sets. For those of us who don’t mind
selling more, please let Kathy or me know when you need more. I’ll be glad to get them to you.
If you want to borrow the quilt to sell
tickets, just let me know. It has been
taken to work, church functions, other guilds, etc. Selling tickets is very important to the
success of our quilt show.
The large raffle quilt is a Judy Niemeyer
pattern, “Glacier Pines.” It was paper
pieced, machine stitched, hand appliquéd and machine quilted. The wall hanging of Celtic knots has been
hand appliquéd and hand quilted.
Thanks,
Susan Hill
