Visitors Welcome
Ready to Make Some Quilts?
Our evening guild program
will take us back to our roots by having us get kits together or tying quilts
for Community Quilts. The reasons we get together is
to share and learn new ideas, socialize, and warm the hearts of others. So,
please come and join the fun…maybe bring a friend along. Bring rulers, mats and
cutters or yarn to tie. If anyone would like to volunteer to bring cookies,
brownies, dessert or plates and napkins, please contact me at 848.5844 or lesabame at sbcglobal.net.
I’m still looking for our
guilds’ award winners for the October meeting. I was hoping to share some of
the techniques, rulers or patterns used for these quilts.
Don’t forget to sign up for
It’s also time to sign up for
the 2011 Red, White & Blue for You Retreat. Yippee!!!

A Note from the President
Well, we are coming to that time
of year… budgets, nominating committee for new officers/chairpersons and
volunteering. With demos being the topic of our August meeting, we weren’t
really able to have a real meeting. So, I have been asking people to be on the
Nominating Committee. I have a few people on the committee and will be trying
to finish filling this committee; hopefully, at the September meeting.
The Nominating Committee
isn’t that hard of a job. You will be on the committee for one year. You will
be calling guild members to try to fill the positions of President and
Treasurer. Those are the only two positions to fill. If you are interested in
being on the Nominating Committee or being President/Treasurer, please e-mail
or phone me.
We will also have several
more chairperson positions open and will announce them at the September
meeting.
Please think about
volunteering for a position. The guild really needs people to step up and help.
Some positions definitely take more time/involvement than others. But try to
find a job where you can make it work with your life-style. If you are
interested in a position but it seems overwhelming, think about sharing it with
someone. Anything is possible.
I have had a great time being
President. I have tried to meet and talk to as many guild members as I can. We
have a great guild with lots of wonderful people. Please think of volunteering
and helping your guild move forward into 2011.
Susan Hill
President, 426-4740

Calling All Secret
Stitchers
Sign-ups for a new season of
Secret Stitchers will began in August and will go through October with the
first gift exchange in November.
This is a fun way to get to
know another guild member. Each month you will bring a small gift such as a
fat-quarter, sewing notion, a treat, or other inexpensive item for your
assigned Stitcher, and you will receive a gift from your Secret Stitcher. In
May the identities of the Stitchers are revealed.
Participants from last year
seemed to enjoy the experience. New secret stitchers
are most welcome. If you want to participate but know that you will miss many
meetings, please have a friend deliver and pick up your gifts so you, and your Secret Stitcher won’t be disappointed.
Look for the Secret Stitcher basket with the sign-up cards on the shelf
by the kitchen.
If you have any questions,
please contact Barbara Carruth at

Quilt Show 2012
Raffle Quilts
I’m sure many of you went to
the NQA show this past June. Did you notice the words “hand quilted” and “hand
appliquéd”? I even noticed one that said “hand pieced”! Even at our show, the
Best of Show was a tie with Lee Peterson’s “hand quilted” whole cloth
and Chris Lilly’s “hand appliquéd” bed quilt.
This started several of us thinking, maybe we should try to have two raffle quilts.
One would be a bed sized quilt with the other being a “hand” done project.
Words such as wallhanging, hand appliqué, hand
quilting, Celtic were tossed around and several people
volunteered to do a 47" x 47" wallhanging
with celtic squares. About 5-6 people went to several
quilt stores and decided on fabric and it has been started. There are several
ladies hand appliquéing as we speak. Yeah!! I also have several ladies who have
volunteered to hand quilt!! If you are interested in this project, just let me
know.
Now, we are in the final
stages of selecting a bed sized quilt. If you would like to help select fabric,
email me. I have a few people already signed up.
